On Saturday, 12 October, the Grosuplje City Market came alive with a festive atmosphere at the Chestnut Saturday event, which attracted many visitors and brought a real autumn atmosphere. Organised in cooperation between Tourism Grosuplje and the Grosuplje Handball Club, the event promised a rich programme full of tastes, smells and pleasant social event.
The event smelled of freshly roasted chestnuts, which brought a real warmth to the autumn air. In addition to chestnuts, visitors enjoyed other delicacies such as traditional “šmorn”, which delighted children and adults. The Karolina café enriched the event with a special treat – a delicious chestnut ice cream.
Activities to suit all tastes
The event offered something for everyone. Sports enthusiasts could try their handball skills at a special goal kick organised by the Grosuplje Handball Club (Rokometni klub Grosuplje), while the youngest ones got creative with chestnuts and created wonderful chestnut animals.
A cultural program provided a lively atmosphere at the market. Children from the Grosuplje Music School enlivened the event with accordion performances, creating a pleasant musical backdrop. The audience was also delighted by the members of the folklore group KD Sv. Mihael, who twirled to the rhythm of the accordion and revived the spirit of the past with their dance.
Demonstration of traditional autumn tasks
Visitors had the opportunity to learn about traditional autumn and winter tasks. Mr Žagar from Šmarje-Sap demonstrated the making of wicker baskets, an art that has been handed down from generation to generation and fascinated young and old alike. The Dobo pottery demonstrated the making of ceramic vessels on a pottery spindle, which impressed many who had the opportunity to see how diligent hands create a true masterpiece.
The event was a great success, but above all a great example of how a local community can come together to revitalize and enrich its town with rich culinary experiences, sports activities and a cultural program. Many thanks to all those who contributed to the program and to all the visitors who helped to create an enjoyable atmosphere and, together with the organizers, to pay tribute to autumn.
